Pamper your pup on National Dog Day

Just in case your beloved four-legged friend isn’t celebrated enough every single day of the year, Aug. 26 is National Dog Day. 

To many pups, Aug. 26 is one of the most wonderful days of the year because it’s National Dog Day—but, if we really think about it, isn’t every day?

National Dog Day is celebrated every Aug. 26 and was founded in 2004 by animal advocate and pet and family lifestyle expert Colleen Paige, the mastermind behind National Puppy Day, National Cat Day and National Mutt Day.

There are lots of ways to pamper your pup every day, but here are a few ways to kick it up a notch on National Dog Day. For example, Land Rover just launched Pet Packs to keep furkids in the lap of luxury with quilted space liners, foldable pet carriers, access ramp, spill-proof water bowls and even a portable rinsing system for easy cleanup after muddy walks while off-roading.

From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on National Dog Day, Bark will take over a massive Times Square billboard to showcase the weird and wonderful dogs of 200 lucky social media followers, who used #BillboardMyDog to advertise what they love most about their furkid.

Bark also just unveiled a line of treats in Target aimed at helping find furever homes for dogs in seven rescues across the U.S.

National Dog Day with LazyBonezz

For the past decade, LazyBonezz has been making every day National Dog Day for pups all over with its unique fashions and furniture, which all began with a bed.

“LazyBonezz came about after an exhaustive, unsuccessful search for a pet bed to compliment a relative’s contemporary apartment,” founder Lorainne Gold told Metro. “Utilizing years of experience designing children’s furniture, we decided to create our own line of luxury pet products beginning with the introduction of our innovative bunk bed, the Metropolitan, in 2008.”

For example, the unique Metropolitan bunk bed ($399) comes in red and black wood with side stairs and chrome accents. This writer’s dog, Kona, took to the top bunk immediately, loving that its height allowed her to get her snoop on at the window while snuggled up on the zebra-striped pillow.

While the bed was extremely well-crafted, sturdy and super-easy to put together — and nice to look at to boot — the Croc Lounger ($79) is LazyBonezz’s best-selling product, Gold said. 

Kona also adores the LazyBonezz Grab and Go Pet Bin ($15) because its cut-out makes her toys easier to access for playtime. However, she’s yet to grasp how to put her toys back in, so we asked Gold for some suggestions.

“That’s something we haven’t figured out just yet but are definitely researching as well,” she said.
